Welche Griffgröße brauche ich?

Which grip size do I need?

Tennis rackets are made in different grip sizes. These usually range from L00000 (3 1/2'') to L5 (4 5/8''). But what does that mean and why should you know your grip size? We'll tell you everything about the tennis racket grip in this blog post!

What is the handle size?

The grip size of a tennis racket refers to the thickness or circumference of the handle. The larger the hand, the thicker the handle should be - and vice versa. If the grip size is too small or too large, this can lead to incorrect gripping of the racket, which in turn can lead to faster muscle fatigue. In Europe, grip sizes are measured in units L00000 to L5, although for adults only sizes L0 to L4 are usually relevant. An "L" is often added in front to indicate this unit of measurement. In the USA, however, the grip size is given in inches, which is why you will find both units of measurement on most rackets.

How do I measure my grip size?

To find the right grip size for your tennis racket, you can measure the distance from the tip of your ring finger to the second line of your hand. The number of millimeters will then give you the correct grip size. The following picture shows you how it works:

Tips and Tricks:

If measuring is too complicated for you or you don't have a ruler to hand, you can also determine your grip size using a tennis racket. Hold the racket by the handle. There should be about one finger's space between your fingertips and the ball of your thumb. The distance can vary slightly depending on personal preference - it is important that the fingertips or fingernails do not constantly touch the ball of your thumb.

In recent years, the trend has been towards smaller grip sizes. If you are unsure, we recommend going for the smaller size. If the grip is too small, you can wind an additional overgrip. If the grip is too big, thin grip tapes will help, or you can just play with the basic grip tape. In the long term, however, it would be advisable to switch to a smaller grip.
